Lerka – Area for the Research and Creation in Contemporary Arts – is a tool in the development of contemporary creation and critical reflection on the island, in the context of current international artistic events, privileging the Indian Ocean zone and the regions that have cultural links with Reunion.
Our approach is interdisciplinary, both from the point of view of creation – visual arts, poetry, music, theatre – and of research – art history, sociology and anthropology. Lerka is a laboratory which promotes the confrontation, the experimentation and the diffusion of works of art and ideas.
Our mission is consistent with urban development, offering services and a profound reflection on the construction of ‘an evolving urban identity’. (en savoir plus…)
Considered as an Association 1901 (French legal term defining the type of association), our goal is to promote contemporary art, reflection, research, creation, advice and diffusion. The Lerka welcomes artists, providing workshops on the grounds of its site, given by the Local Town Council, its privileged partner.
Previously based in the grounds of a cultural open-space at Jeumon in Saint Denis, Lerka has now taken up residence in the buildings of a former school at PK4, Saint Francois.
